This article, Blended learning is the way forward after pandemic, appeared in University World News on 30 May. It suggests a model for how a blended learning course might look. As in Hong Kong, there is the problem that it doesn't conform to the sectoral regulator's specification for university courses so there may be a need to tinker with these rules.
This option is possible in Hong Kong under certain conditions thanks to a 'blended learning' arrangement that is already in place but not yet widely used. The author says that: 'Teacher capacity is key, but we must also change our mindset about teaching and learning as just a same time, same place activity.'
I am looking forward to hearing about new ways of designing courses in blended learning mode. Vivian Chen and I will also be talking about the way we tried to do this.
Looking forward to hearing about the experience of CUHK and Hong Kong.
From my experience, bureaucratic resistance to online learning was and will be the bigger challenge to a future of "blended learning". Most of the time, such resistance builds up at State/ministerial level, while University administrations have been quite flexible.
